There is an ongoing effort underway to raise awareness of the tremendous creative energy in Truckee, and Truckee definitely packs a punch when it comes to enticing creative people to live and work here. For example, there are over 200 visual artists in Truckee, and some of them are nationally known. There are also quite a few teaching artists offering workshops and other interactive opportunities for both children and adults. A new website, http://www.CreativeTruckee.org, is under development and will host a listing of many art and cultural events happening in Truckee, including visual, culinary, literary, performing, and musical offerings. Add http://www.CreativeTruckee.org to your favorites, and check back around May 15th for its debut.
And now, Truckee has a new culinary arts program. After five years of operation, Stella Restaurant, part of the Cedar House Sport Hotel, is moving in a new direction. Under Executive Chef Jacob Burton, Stella Culinary will be offering hands-on cooking classes, underground dinner parties for the general public and creative custom dining options for families and groups.
A very interesting component of this new culinary arts destination is the on-going educational aspect of their website, http://www.StellaCulinary.com. The Stella Culinary School podcasts strive to replicate the same lectures you would find at a top rate culinary school, starting with the most basic concepts, with each subsequent episode building on the last.
