Just this month, VacationIdea.com ranked Truckee among the 23 best romantic weekend destinations in the west. This is a big deal as VacationIdea.com was rated “best of the web” by Forbes for 9 years and receives 500,000 monthly unique visitors.
In April, the Matador Network rated Truckee as one of 10 of America’s coolest Towns. The article noted the multi-sport opportunities, including skiing, fly fishing, and climbing. Not surprising, the abundance of great beer and coffee was also noted.
These instances are by far not the first time Truckee has gained national attention from the media as an ideal place to visit, live, and work. Sunset Magazine has ranked Truckee as one of the top 10 dream towns and also bestowed an environmental award on the Truckee-Donner Land Trust. Sunset Magazine also recognized Independence Lake (a few miles north of Truckee) as one of the 10 best Lakes in California. And, a few short years ago, National Geographic ranked Truckee as one of the World’s top 25 ski towns and Men’s Journal named Truckee one of the Best Mountain Towns.
It isn’t hard to understand why Truckee is recognized so often for it’s natural beauty and recreational opportunities along with its appealing historic downtown region. In researching this topic, we found a link on the Truckee-Donner Chamber of Commerce website to a presentation that is a great representation of why Truckee is recognized time and time again as one of the regions best summer and winter destinations.
